I may be biased here (and by ‘may be’ I actually mean ‘most definitely am’), but moms are literal heroes. A mom’s job description reads like this: ‘You will work from 8am Monday morning till 7:59am the following Monday morning for approximately the next 18 years. Assignments include creating food from your body, wiping poop from tushies, waking multiple times a night, cooking, cleaning, entertaining tinies with a 42 second attention span, and feeling guilty whenever you rest. You will do this for free. Your tasks will evolve over the next 18 years, and we maintain the right to require literally anything of you during this time. Then you will volunteer several hundred thousand dollars to send your assignment to higher education. Your assignment will likely come back to live with you for free food, housing, and laundry services until he or she turns 30.’
Each mother is different, but something they all have in common is the need to feel appreciated. And since everyone has their own ‘love language’, it’s important to seek variety in how we express that appreciation. Below are 5 different ways to shower your mom with love this Mother’s Day, in her unique ‘love language’. Acts of Service: Nothing says love like an act of service (remember, she’s been giving you these dozens of times a day for much of your life!). Try cooking her a meal (try the recipe below), setting the table, and doing the dishes at the end. She’ll love being treated to a restaurant experience in her own home while you let her relax and enjoy! Or if you aren’t much of a cook, try organizing her pantry, closet, or laundry room for her (and maybe even watch an episode of Tidying Up with Marie Kwondo together for inspiration beforehand!) Words of Affirmation: Nothing says I love you like being SPECIFIC with your praise. And though words in private are always treasures, there’s something to be said about making your mom blush by giving her public praise. So give her the toast of a lifetime at dinner, or flaunt your flattery on social media. Not sure what to say? Think of a favorite memory with her, a quality you love about her, your favorite meal she cooks, her most beautiful physical feature, or the quality you love most about yourself that you know you inherited from her. Physical Touch: Get her a massage! This luxurious experience is exactly what she didn’t know she needed. A chance to relax and be zen, to have those aching muscles worked out, and to feel loved. And if you’ve got decent hands, try giving her a massage yourself! A little almond oil, some lavender oil, or a CBD cream will make her troubles melt away. Quality Time: Take an afternoon to create some memories! Go get a manicure for her (and yes, the guys can do this too - you should experience a ‘manly-cure’ at least once in your lifetime!), take a walk in the park, and watch her favorite movie. Before the movie starts, just talk. Ask her questions about her life before you were born - you’ll probably learn something you never knew before Gifts: A lot of moms think in terms of practicality and utility when they ask for gifts (I should know…the last gift I asked for was a dust-buster!). But there’s a difference between what she needs and what she actually wants. And while there’s no way to actually pay her back for all her years of unbridled love, there’s something priceless about making a woman feel pampered. So in my opinion, go for something unnecessary and luxurious that will make her feel like the beautiful woman she is!
On the topic of gifts, there’s a reason that physical gifts remain the classic way to say ‘I love you’ to your mom on Mother’s Day. But if you’re anything like me, you probably need a little inspiration; precious few of us are actually gifted at gift-giving. As such, allow me to get your imagination going, and to present a few of my favorite mom-pleasers that will take years off her skin, give her a sensory experience, and help her relax!
Sip & Savor: These glorious teas will bring on the zen and get out the glow! Take a Sec tea infuses lavender, hibiscus and chamomile to call out the calm while #NoFilter Beauty tea combines rose, dandelion root, and jasmine to nourish the skin.
Indulge the Senses: Help her relax with Sweet Dreams essential oil roller, a delicate combination of lavender, ylang ylang, and orange, or brighten her spirit with Sunny Days essential oil roller, filled with bergamot, orange, and lemon. If she’s more of a glamour girl, give her a classic perfume. Artistry Flora Chic Eau de Perfum Spray is a modern take on timeless elegance, with hints of mandarin and sweet orange in a floral bouquet.
Bring on the Beauty: Give her face and her mood an instant lift with Artistry Signature Select Firming Mask; this pomegranate-infused honey-like gel starts cool and turns to a warm, creamy white as it activates the skin, lifting and tightening while mama rests and relaxes. Or if you’re in the market for a group gift, go for the glory and get her Supreme LX Regenerating Cream - this 24K gold-infused facial cream goes where no other skin creams have gone before, helping skin look and act up to 15 years younger with a massive energy boost, lifting and rejuvenating the skin (and her spirit).
